EYESIGHT REQUIREMENTS
It is essential to prove to the driving examiner that you can read a car number plate during the day with letters 79.4mm high at a distance of at least 20.5 metres.
New style number plates, introduced from the year 2001, must be interpreted from a distance of 20 metres.
It is acceptable to wear glasses or contact lenses in order to read the car number plate, but it is vital they are also worn every time you drive.
